A feast of marine species

CORAL GARDENS

The coral gardens around Northern Zanzibar Island and Mnemba Island Marine Conservation Area offer a fascinating experience for snorkeling enthusiasts where up to 600 fish species, green turtles, three species of dolphins, whale sharks, and humpback whales can be found. The Mnemba Island Reef just a short 40-minute boat trip up the Zanzibar coast is an oval reef seven by four kilometers in extent which surrounds the privately-owned Mnemba Island a single small island located about 3 km off the northeast coast of Unguja, the largest island of the Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania, opposite Muyuni Beach. Diving here is a year-round event, with reasonably good conditions to be found under almost all weather conditions offering visibilities of 20 to 40 meters most of the time. Exploring this coral garden is an experience of joy where divers can have a viewing feast of fish species such as inter alia the Twobar Anemofish, Clownfish, Indo-pacific Sergeant, Titan Triggerfish, Blackback Butterflyfish, Moorish Idol, Indian Ocean Lionfish, Bengal Snapper, Threespot Dascyllus, Goldbar Wrasse, Surgeonfish, Parrotfish, Groupers, Crown-of-thorns Starfish and many more. Other sites further away which also offer great viewing opportunities but are mostly accessible to more experienced divers are Kichwani Reef, Wattabomi Site, Aquarium Site: West Gardens Site, and The Big Wall Site. See https://www.tanzaniatourism.go.tz/ for more information on diving conditions and accessibility. Please enquire at our reception for more information on day trips to these coral gardens.
